Glass Nail Clipper
These nail clippers are made of glass, a material that has been cultivated as part of Japanese culture since the Edo period (1603–1868), and feature traditional geometric patterns: ichimatsu, yagasuri, and seigaiha patterns that are popular in Japan and abroad.
The checkerboard ichimatsu pattern is an iconic design associated with Tokyo, adopted as the emblem of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Reminiscent of arrow feathers, the yagasuri design is a common motif in traditional Edo komon patterns and decorative Edo chiyogami paper, making it closely associated with the traditional crafts of Tokyo.
The auspicious seigaiha pattern features endlessly repeating waves, symbolizing wishes for eternal happiness and a peaceful life, and it became a popular motif throughout Japan during the Edo period.
These nail clippers can also serve as a bottle opener, making them a convenient item for travel.
