Ranked #1 in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2025
Tokyo, October 8, 2025 – The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is pleased to announce that Tokyo has been ranked as the No. 1 city in the world’s “Best Big Cities” category for the second consecutive year in the Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 hosted by the U.S. edition of the prestigious travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveler.
The continued recognition of Tokyo as the world’s most captivating city reflects the success of public–private initiatives to enhance visitor infrastructure and create immersive cultural experiences.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to further enhance the attractiveness of Tokyo, a city where tradition and innovation coexist, to establish the “PRIME Tourism Destination City Tokyo.”

“The Best Cities in the World” Ranking Top 10

In this year’s “Best Big Cities” rankings, which exclude U.S. cities, Tokyo led the list, followed by Kyoto, reaffirming Japan’s strong presence on the global tourism stage. The top 10 cities for 2025 are as follows:
