Edo-Sensu Seigaiha (Tokyo Tokyo Version)
Edo-sensu fans emerged as part of the samurai culture of the Edo period (ca. 1603–1867).
Their designs are simple yet stylish by nature—quite different from the elegant designs of the Kyo-sensu fans from Kyoto. While staying true to their original simplicity, this Edo-sensu fan embraces the concept of “Old meets New,” featuring a modern design on its surface for a more luxurious feel. In general, each fan is handcrafted by a single artisan.
The motif consists of intricate wave patterns, lucky symbols that are meant to represent hope for a more peaceful and stable world.
The reverse side is adorned with a mist-like kasumibiki design, hand-painted using traditional techniques.
