Kumihimo bracelet

These bracelets are made using hand-weaving techniques “Kumihimo”, a traditional craft which has been passed down to this day. Traditionally braided from silk threads on special looms, the cords were used primarily to reinforce clothing, including samurai armor, priest robes, aristocratic attire, and obi belts on kimonos. Depending on its color or knot pattern, a kumihimo could have been used to proclaim one’s social status, gender, or to celebrate a joyous occasion. Nowadays, kumihimo is mostly used as an accessory. The bracelets are woven in recognizable kumihimo patterns using the iconic Tokyo Tokyo colours – white and blue. The depth of Japanese tradition and history that intertwines within the braided cord will surely make an attractive and excellent souvenir.
