Hanten

The HANTEN is a short coat worn over a kimono that spread among the common folk in the Edo period (1603-1868). Now it is appreciated as a life-enhancing item essential during Japanese festivals. The pattern in front of and behind the HANTEN is the traditional checkered Ichimatsu-Moyo, which originated from the pattern on the hakama skirts of kabuki actors in the Edo period. Since the material isn't heavy it also works well as a light coat during the hot summer. More casual than the kimono, why not try on a HANTEN and a piece of Japanese culture?
